Feds Deny ND Request For Early Haying Of CRP Land

(Bismarck, ND) -- The federal government is denying a request by North Dakota's leaders to allow ranchers early access to hay grass on idled Conservation Reserve Program land.

Ranchers in the state have been struggling to feed cattle with widespread drought conditions.

A state Agriculture Department spokeswoman says leaders are looking into the reasons why the request was denied.

If ranchers have to wait until the season opens August 1st, the grass may not be of good enough quality to hay.
