ND Senate Overrides Veto on Anti-Mask Mandate Bill, Sustains Veto on Transgender Sports

(Bismarck, ND) -- The North Dakota Senate has voted to sustain Governor Doug Burgum's veto of HB 1298, which would have banned transgender athletes from participating in K-12 girls' sports statewide. The 28-19 vote fell short of the 2/3rds majority needed to override the bill. There were 3 senators who implored senators voting against the measure the first time, to change their votes and support the override. As to HB 1323, the bill that would bar any governor or the state health officer from imposing a statewide mask mandate, the Senate voted to override Burgum's veto 32 to 15.
