(Minneapolis, MN) -- Court is back in session in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. He's accused of killing George Floyd. The prosecution is seeking to delay proceedings until a ruling is made on whether to reinstate a third-degree murder charge against Chauvin. That charge is currently under review by the Minnesota Court of Appeals. Chauvin was originally charged with third-degree murder last October, but Judge Peter Cahill dismissed it, saying it didn't apply to the case. However, the Minnesota Court of Appeals ruled last week Cahill must reconsider the third-degree murder charge. Jury selection could also resume today.
Chauvin's charged with manslaughter and second-degree murder in connection with the death of George Floyd last year. He was caught on camera kneeling on the unarmed Black man's neck for nearly nine minutes.
