Jury Selection To Proceed In Derek Chauvin Case

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  Jury selection is moving forward in the case against former police officer Derek Chauvin.  In a Minneapolis courtroom this morning, Judge Peter Cahill did not rule on whether or not to reinstate a third-degree murder charge against Chauvin.  That charge is currently under review by the Minnesota Court of Appeals.  Chauvin was originally charged with third-degree murder last October, but Judge Cahill dismissed it, saying it didn't apply to the case.  However, the Minnesota Court of Appeals ruled last week Cahill must reconsider the third-degree murder charge.  Chauvin is also facing second-degree murder and manslaughter charges.

Chauvin is the former police officer accused of killing George Floyd in Minneapolis.  He was the white officer seen in the viral video of the Black man's death kneeling on his neck for nearly nine minutes.
