ND Lawmakers Considering Rescinding Ratification Of ERA

(Bismarck, ND)  --  North Dakota lawmakers are considering rescinding the state's ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.  Lawmakers who oppose the measure say it would actually do a disservice to women, making it illegal to provide special benefits or exemptions to women.  Executive Director of North Dakota Women's Network says the amendment protects "both women and men against sex discrimination under the law.  The Senate passed a resolution last Monday to rescind the state's 1975 ratification of the amendment.  A companion bill is being considered in the House.
