(Montgomery, AL)  --  Alabama's Republican governor, Kay Ivey, signed an in vitro fertilization protection bill into law shortly after it was approved by the state legislature Wednesday.

Under the provisions of Senate Bill 159, clinics, doctors and other healthcare facilities that provide IVF treatment in Alabama, will be granted immunity from criminal prosecution. However, civil lawsuits will be allowed against manufacturers of IVF products used to grow embryos. Monetary damages would also be capped at a certain amount.

The bill does not address the "personhood" declaration made by the Alabama court.
