(New York, NY)  --  McDonald's says tension in the Middle East is hurting business.

The fast food giant reported growing overall sales and earnings in its fourth quarter, but said the issues in the Middle East are still looming over sales in the region.  McDonald's mostly licenses its brand to independent companies in the Middle East, which doesn't make up a large part of the company's overall business.

The company said business grew less than 1% in the region, compared to more than 4% growth in the US and other nations.
