(Washington, DC)  --  President Biden says he will shut down the southern border if Congress passes a new bipartisan immigration deal.

On Friday night, Biden released a statement putting his support behind the emerging immigration legislation being worked on in the Senate. Biden said it will be "the toughest and fairest set of reforms to secure the border we've ever had in our country," and that it would give him new emergency authority to shut down the border when it becomes "overwhelmed."

The current bill in the Senate is opposed by House Speaker Mike Johnson, who said the bill would be "dead on arrival."
