(Amherst County, VA) --  Investigators in Virginia are trying to determine how a student was able to bring fentanyl-laced gummy bears to his elementary school.

The superintendent of the Amherst County school system, west of Richmond, said seven students had reactions after eating the drug-laced candy at Central Elementary yesterday. Five of the students were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The school system is cooperating with the county sheriff's office to investigate the incident.
