(Washington, D.C.) -- The Supreme Court is deciding whether to take up a legal fight over the drug most commonly used for medication abortion.

The case has to do with the FDA's process for approving drugs. Earlier this year, a Texas-based federal judge invalidated the original approval of the drug Mifepristone, which happened two decades ago. His ruling was then narrowed by an appeals court. If the Supreme Court Justices decide not to intervene in the ongoing litigation, a ruling that limited the availability of the drug by mail would go into effect.

The Supreme Court Justices could decide to announce their hearing as early as today, or as late as January.
