(Washington, DC) -- President Biden is laying out new steps to protect student loan borrowers following the Supreme Court's ruling striking down his debt relief program.
While speaking from the White House, the president said he'll invoke the Higher Education Act in an effort to provide debt relief to as many borrowers as possible.
He said that'll allow the Education Department to waive loans under certain circumstances, which he added will "take longer."
The president criticized Republicans who were fiercely opposed to his plan to forgive up to $20 thousand dollars in student debt for eligible borrowers.
He argued Republicans "snatched away hope" for millions of Americans.
