Debt limit bill clears procedural hurdle

(Washington, DC)  --  The House is approving a key rule for the debt ceiling bill setting it up for final passage later Wednesday night.

The rule passed 241-187 with 29 Republicans voting against it.

The rule now allows the House to debate the debt ceiling bill on the floor and final vote on the legislation.

The bill needs a simple majority to clear the House and move on to the Senate.
