Schumer: debt ceiling meeting was positive

(Washington, DC)  --  The meeting between President Biden and congressional leaders on the debt ceiling was productive.

That's what Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer told reporters after the meeting today, saying all parties agreed a default would be the worst outcome.

He said bipartisan negotiations between staff will continue.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, meanwhile, said there's still a lot of work to do to reach a deal but it's possible a deal could be reached by the end of the week.

Congress needs to pass a bill to raise the debt limit or risk a default by June 1st.
