Godfather of AI says He Regrets Life's Work

The man known as the Godfather of A.I. stunned the tech world this week when he said he regrets his life's work because of the potential harm artificial intelligence could do.

Geoffrey Hinton announced this week that he would be stepping down from Google where he was a Vice President and Engineering Fellow that helped pioneer deep learning who developed some of the most important techniques at the heart of modern AI, is leaving the company after 10 years, the New York Times reported today.

In a New York Times article published Monday, Hinton said it's hard to see how to "prevent bad actors from using it for bad things."   Hinton also points to “bad actors” that may use AI in ways that could have detrimental impact on society including manipulating elections or instigating violence.
