(Fargo, ND) -- IQs in the U.S. seem to be dropping, new research finds.

A study out of Northwestern University looked at ability scores in four categories, verbal reasoning, visual problem solving, mathematics and spatial reasoning.

In all of those categories except spatial reasoning, researchers found scores declined between 2011 and 2018. That doesn't necessarily mean people are getting dumber, researchers note, it could just be that people are getting worse at taking these kinds of tests.

Scientists point to many other factors that could play a role, from poor nutrition to media exposure.
