(New York, NY) -- Having a home-based business can be confusing when it comes to taking deductions on your yearly taxes.
Mark Steber, Chief Tax Information Officer at Jackson Hewitt, says there are some simple rules.
He says just because you have an office at home with a printer, but if you're an employee only and you only have W-2 wages, you don't quality.
If you do have a home office you can calculate the size of your office and then deduct a percentage of what you pay to run your home, including rent, mortgage, utilities, expenses for your computer and other costs.
Tax day is still set for Tuesday, April 18th.
