(Detroit, MI) -- General Motors is offering buyouts to any salaried employee in the United States with at least five years of service with the automaker.

CEO Mary Barra says in an email obtained by the Detroit Free Press that they are also offering the buyouts to any salaried employees outside of the U.S. with at least two years of service and says it will "avoid the potential for involuntary actions" later on.

GM cut several hundred jobs about a week ago as they work on transforming to an all-electric automaker.

Employees have until March 24th to make a decision.
