(Washington, DC) -- The federal government reportedly is ready to block JetBlue's three-point-eight billion dollar merger with Spirit Airlines.

There are reports the Justice Department could file an antitrust lawsuit against the deal as soon as Tuesday.

JetBlue CEO Robin Hayes told The Wall Street Journal on Monday that he expects the companies to "get sued by the DOJ this week."

A JetBlue spokesperson said the airline is still hoping to close the acquisition early next year.
