(Atlanta, GA) -- The public health emergency declaration for monkeypox is over.

The CDC reports the number of new daily cases is dropping drastically, hovering in single digits compared to 450 new cases a day last August.

Cases are also down in Europe, Asia, and the Western Pacific, but are continuing to rise in several South American countries.

More than 30-thousand Americans were diagnosed with monkeypox during the outbreak last year, including 23 who died.
