(Washington, DC) -- A majority of adults in the U.S. say the government should ensure that all Americans have healthcare.
That's according to a new survey out by Gallup, which found 57-percent of respondents were in support.
However, the same data shows 53-percent say they want the system based on private insurance.
The survey also found that responses fell sharply along party lines with 72-percent of Democrats in favor of a government-run system, versus just 13-percent of Republicans.
Overall, Americans continue to have a nuanced view of the healthcare system, with most saying the government is responsible for making sure all citizens have coverage, but prefer that it was funded privately.
