Scientists find way to destroy forever chemicals

(Fargo, ND) -- A new study reveals a group of scientists have found a way to destroy so-called "forever chemicals."

The chemicals were developed in the 1930s and have been used in products such as Scotchgard, Teflon pans and even the foam firefighters use to put out fires.

"Forever chemicals" have been linked to an increased risk of cancer, liver damage, low birth weight and reduced immunity.

The scientists say they found a way to render the molecules harmless once they've been pulled out of contaminated water or soil, but cautioned there's still a way to go before being able to apply the process outside of the lab.
