(Fargo, ND) -- The summer travel chaos is driving the demand for travel insurance to new highs, especially among younger Americans.

Senior Vice President of travel for Triple-A, Paula Twidale, says it's possible people may already have coverage.

"It’s always great to check your own policy," said Twidale. "Always check your own medical coverage, understand what you are covered for. Also check to see if you’re using a credit card you have some type of coverage was asking for a rental car with her with that be for trip interruption."

Squaremouth, a website that helps travelers compare insurance prices, says policy sales are up 180 percent in June from last year.  The amount of claims filed are even higher at 235 percent.

According to FlightAware.com, America is still averaging over a thousand flight cancellations daily.
