(Washington, DC) -- The Inflation Reduction Act passed by the Senate Sunday will not cap insulin costs for Americans with private health coverage.

Democrats had hoped to include a measure in the package that would limit the cost of insulin to 35-dollars for patients on Medicare and private coverage. A vote to keep the private coverage provision after the Senate parliamentarian decided it was not compliant with reconciliation process rules failed.

The Democrats came up three votes shy of being able to keep the provision after 43 Republican Senators voted "no."

Seven Republicans joined Democrats in voting in favor of capping insulin costs for private coverage holders.
