(Beijing) -- China is sanctioning House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over her trip to Taiwan.

Bejing's decision also includes sanctioning Pelosi's immediate family due to her "vicious" and "provocative" actions.

The Chinese foreign ministry said despite Beijing's "firm opposition, Pelosi insisted on visiting Taiwan, seriously interfering in China's internal affairs."

China claims Taiwan as its own and has responded to Pelosi's visit by conducting live military exercises surrounding the island nation. The foreign ministry went on to say Pelosi's trip threatened "the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait."
