(Taipei) -- China is firing missiles in the Taiwan Strait.

A statement from Taiwan's defense ministry said Chinese long-range rockets have fallen near the Matsu Islands north of Taiwan. Missiles were also reported in the waters southwest of Taiwan.

The Chinese military confirms that multiple missiles were fired into the sea near Taiwan and that all the missiles hit their target. The military exercises came after U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi left the island.

Pelosi has been on a tour of Asia that ends in Japan this weekend. Her visit to Taiwan angered Chinese officials, who consider the island to be Chinese territory.
