(Miami, FL) -- Seventeen migrants are dead, trying to make a dangerous journey to Miami from the Bahamas.

Their boat capsized about seven miles from New Providence when they encountered rough seas. The Bahamian Prime Minister confirmed that the dead include a toddler, 15 women and one man. Twenty-five others on the boat were rescued.

Less than one week ago, the Coast Guard intercepted a boat off the coast of Boca Chita Key. The Coast Guard estimates as many as 200 migrants were on board, many of whom are believed to be Haitian.
