Weekly unemployment back above 250K

(Washington, DC) -- Claims for unemployment benefits are back above a quarter million.

The Labor Department says 251-thousand Americans filed first-time claims last week. That's a jump of seven-thousand from the previous week's total which didn't have to be revised.

The states that saw the most jobless benefit filings for the week that ended July 9th include New York, Kentucky, and Arizona.

California, New Jersey, and Georgia saw the largest declines.
