(Washington, D.C.) -- Retail sales are up as inflation continues to weigh on consumer pocket books.

Numbers out from the Commerce Department Friday morning show sales jumped one percent in June. Analysts had predicted a rise of eight-tenths of a percent.

Some of the increase is likely reflecting the higher prices consumers were paying for goods and services as inflation hit a 40-year high last month.

Sales at the gas pump saw the biggest jump at three-point-six percent, followed by online and home shopping sales at two-point-two percent.
