(Paris) -- It looks like French President Emmanuel Macron will lose control of his country's parliament.

The results of Sunday's election will still see Macron's Ensemble coalition with the most seats in the National Assembly, but will be short of the 289 needed for an absolute majority. France now faces the possibility of a hung parliament unless Macron is able to broker alliances with other parties.

This is the first time a newly elected president won't have an outright majority in parliament since 1988.
