(Atlantic City, NJ) -- Thousands of casino workers in Atlantic City could go out on strike before the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Their contract expired on May 31st and union organizers say the workers' wages have fallen behind for years due to the Great Recession in 2008, damages from Hurricane Sandy in 2012, the recent pandemic, and inflation.

The workers voted by 96-percent to authorize a strike at five of Atlantic City's nine casinos with a deadline of July 1st.
