(Normandy, France) -- Monday marks the 78th anniversary of D-Day.
World War Two veterans will be joined by thousands of visitors at the American Cemetery in Normandy. The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff will be on hand as U.S. Air Force aircraft fly over the burial site as part of a commemoration ceremony. This will be the first D-Day anniversary held without restrictions since 2019.
More than nine-thousand people who took part in fighting on D-Day and in ensuing operations are buried at the American Cemetery. Almost 160-thousand troops from the U.S, Canada and Britain landed on the beaches of Normandy.
