(Chicago, IL) -- McDonald's is going to sell its business in Russia, two months after suspending operations over the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The company cited the humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine and said this morning that continued ownership in Russia is no longer tenable or consistent with McDonald's values.

McDonald's also said it wants to try to keep its Russian employees paid until a deal closes. The restaurant chain opened its first Russian location more than three decades ago as the Soviet Union crumbled.
