(Brussels) -- With Russia's invasion of Ukraine now in its 30th day, the U.S. and the European Union have struck a deal that would cut Europe's reliance on Russia for gas.

The European Union currently gets about 40-percent of its gas from Russia. Friday, President Biden and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the formation of a joint task force to increase energy security for Ukraine and the EU for the next two winters.

The U.S. has agreed to help provide Europe with an extra 15 billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas this year.
