(Cambridge, MA) -- Moderna says it will ask the FDA for emergency authorization for its COVID-19 vaccine for young children.

The drugmaker said Wednesday that, in addition to generating a strong immune response, the vaccine was well-tolerated in children age six months up to six years. Moderna said two doses, about one-quarter of the dose given to adults, produced an antibody response similar to that seen in a clinical trial of people 18 and older.

Nearly seven-thousand children were involved in the trials and Moderna said most side effects were mild or moderate.
