(Washington, DC) -- The U.S. House is voting overwhelmingly to remove Russia's "most favored nation" trade status. The same goes for Belarus.

A bipartisan bill to halt normal U.S. trade relations passed 424-8 on Thursday, and the bill now goes to the Senate. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is vowing to quickly pass the measure and send it to President Biden's desk. The bill would boost tariffs on Russian goods coming into the U.S.

The only Ukrainian-born member of Congress, Republican Representative Victoria Spartz of Indiana, says Belarus needed to be included to stop Russian President Vladimir Putin from funneling money through the country.
