(Washington, DC) -- Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is scheduling a vote for Monday evening on 50-billion-dollars in US Postal Service upgrades.

New York's senior Senator says it's good news for people who like the mail and need it. Schumer says the bill, which won bipartisan approval in the House by a wide margin, would speed up delivery and keep Saturday service in place. It would also require USPS workers to sign up for Medicare, a change that could save an estimated 22-billion-dollars over the next decade.

The Postal Service has lost 90-billion dollars since 2007.
