(Catawba Island, OH) -- The Coast Guard says there's no such thing as safe ice, and now 18 people know that first hand.

They were rescued over the weekend on a frozen Lake Erie in Ohio. They were riding snowmobiles when a sheet of ice broke away, leaving them stranded. Seven were lifted by helicopter, four by boat, and the other seven picked up by a Good Samaritan.

Weather experts warned high winds could cause even more ice to break off.
