(Washington, DC) -- NBC News is reporting Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer is retiring.
The liberal justice was as nominated by President Bill Clinton and has been on the court since 1994.
President Biden is already getting suggestions for possible nominations. The President has previously said he would nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court. Several Democratic senators have already posted letters with their top picks. Liberal activists have been pushing Biden to appoint Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court in the event of a vacancy. She was confirmed last year to the DC-based appellate court. Other names being mentioned by Democrats include Justice Leondra Kruger, who serves on the California Supreme Court.
Breyer has been under increasing pressure to retire from progressives who feared a possible future Republican president would appoint a conservative to the High Court.
