(Washington, D.C) -- U.S Attorney General Merrick Garland stated the justice department's commitment to prosecuting members of the January 6 riots.

Garland gave a speech on Wednesday, stating he would pursue those responsible "at any level", vowing to defend against attacks against democracy.

“The Justice Department remains committed to holding all Jan. 6 perpetrators, at any level, accountable under law — whether they were present that day or were otherwise criminally responsible for the assault on our democracy,” Mr. Garland said in a speech.

Garland said the department will not share details about its findings, saying "we must speak through our work. Anything else jeopardizes the viability of our investigations and the civil liberties of our citizens.”
