(Silver Spring, MD) -- The CDC is strongly encouraging older teens to get a COVID booster to protect against the omicron variant.

The agency followed the FDA Thursday in approving Pfizer's third shot for 16 and 17-year-olds. This comes three weeks after all adults were cleared to get a booster, even mix and match.

Early studies suggest the added dose may be the key to fighting omicron, at least until new vaccines to target it are ready next spring.
