(Washington, DC) -- The economy is adding fewer jobs than expected.
The number for November came in at 210-thousand. The unemployment rate fell to four-point-two percent. Officials noted sectors including construction along with professional and business services added jobs. Retail trade, which includes general merchandise stores, lost jobs.
The Labor Department also said average hourly earnings rose last month to just over 31-dollars. That figure has gone up nearly five-percent over the last year. The labor force participation rate sits at 61-point-eight percent. That's a point and a half lower than what it was in February 2020, just before the coronavirus pandemic forced much of the economy to shut down.
