(Minneapolis, MN) -- The Governor of Minnesota is calling the sentencing of Derek Chauvin [[ SHO-vin ]] a positive step towards justice. The former Minneapolis police officer was sentenced Friday to over two decades in prison for the death of George Floyd. Governor Tim Walz says the victim impact statements that were read before the sentencing were "painful but powerful." Walz said we must now come together as a community to work towards justice for all.
