Female Army Soldiers Allowed To Wear Ponytails With Uniforms

(Arlington, VA) -- Female Army soldiers now have more hairstyle options while in uniform.

The Army says women are now allowed to wear ponytails, in addition to braids or buns, while wearing any U.S. Army uniform.

There are some guidelines though  --  their hair must be "neatly and inconspicuously fastened" in the center while in a ponytail and it can't fall below the bottom of their shoulders while at attention.

Officials say this allows for more flexibility, "while maintaining a professional appearance."
