Cruz Releases Statement Following Cancun Trip

(Austin, TX)  --  Texas Senator Ted Cruz is responding to backlash over his trip to Cancun.  The Republican senator says he wanted "to be a good dad" by taking his daughters to Mexico amid freezing blackouts in his home state.  He was met with outrage on social media over his decision to leave the state while Texans struggle for warmth, food and gas.  Cruz noted his family lost heat and power, too.  He said when his girls asked to take a trip with friends, he flew down with them to the resort city in Mexico.  In a statement released today, he said he's working with his team using all their resources to keep Texans informed and safe.  He added that he's flying back today.
