(Fargo, ND) -- Six metro area parents are joining forces in an effort to draw more attention to the childcare crisis and to push for solutions.

"We spoke to all of our providers and what we heard from them was the budget constraints pose a really big challenge for them, which leads to high staff turnover due to inadequate wages, and then this results in limited childcare options for our community," said Chelsey Knutson, a spokesperson for Champions for Childcare.

The group is encouraging people to contact their state representatives to urge them to prioritize policies that enhance childcare availability and affordability.

According to the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services there are three children in the state for every available childcare slot.
