Harwood resident not overly concerned with flooding as authorities warn of "top 5" event

(Fargo, ND) -- A long-time Harwood resident says he's not too worried about floodwaters rising around his home along County Road 20 just west of the Fargo National Cemetery.

"It's not so bad. I've seen it a lot worse. This is a quick one. Quick to rise, quick to fall. This is the second time I had water on my home section here in the last week so this will probably be gone in a couple of days and it will probably come up again when the Maple (River) comes up," said Stuart Johnson. 

Johnson says the water currently covering a stretch of County Road 20 is coming from the Rush River.

Authorities are warning residents in the Harwood area to be prepared for a "major flood" that has the potential to be among the top 5 on record.

They estimate the Sheyenne River to crest at 91.5 feet and project significant flooding in the area where the river meets the Maple River.
