(Fargo, ND) -- A spokesperson for gas stove manufacturers in the U.S. is issuing a warning for the industry and for consumers.

"We are very concerned that the Department of Energy is proposing to set the most stringent standards for gas cooking products which would, which only a fraction of the industry can actually meet," said Jill Notini, a representative for the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers.

Notini says a current efficiency proposal by the federal government would block half of current gas cooking appliances from the market. The proposal has to do with restricting how much gas an appliance could use per year. Notini says her group is focused on performing objective, data-based research to add clarity to the issue.
