North Dakota Lieutenant Governor Tammy Miller on new appointment: "drinking from the firehose"

(Fargo, ND) -- North Dakota's newly-appointed Lieutenant Governor Tammy Miller talks about her first couple of days on the job. 

"I only received the appointment just less than three weeks ago, so all-new, drinking from the fire hose, spending a lot of time with 'leg council', senate leaders, the senate staff," said Miller. 

Miller assumed the position January 3rd. She was appointed by Governor Doug Burgum following the resignation of former Lieutenant Governor Brent Sanford. Miller first joined Burgum's staff in 2019, to serve as the governor's Chief Operating Officer. Miller previously served as CEO of Border States Electric. She says she has not given thought as to whether she will run for the position when her term ends in two years.  

Miller was asked when she first learned that Governor Burgum wanted her in the position.

"Well, it was the Sunday morning, two days before it was announced, and I remember it very well. I was running on the treadmill in my lower level of my house, and I got a text from the governor to see if I was available for a call. (I) got off the treadmill. We had a call. That was the first discussion we had about the position," said Miller. 

The lieutenant governor says her new role will include a continued focus on the reinvention of government.
