(Williston, ND) — The President of the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce says her first six months on the job have run very smoothly.
Anna Nelson tells The Flag’s Chris Berg Show that the journey has been “an incredible experience,” and says she and her team have had the support of the Williston community and those around her.
Within the first few weeks, Nelson and the entire team at the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce were new to each other — all new employees to the chamber. The work the Chamber has done, Nelson says, has given her the chance to support the Williston community — and feel the support back to the staff.
Nelson’s previous job was in the media business, and switching careers to heading the chamber has been a change in itself.
“What I’ve noticed is that, in media, that was more talking ‘at people,’” she said. “Now I get to talk more ‘with people,” and I’ve really enjoyed that aspect.”
The Chamber has a big event they’re preparing for — the Women in Leadership Expo.
“It has been a one-day event, but this year we’re expanding it,” Nelson said.
It will be held Thursday and Friday, October 27 and 28, and will feature keynote speaker, North Dakota’s First Lady, Kathryn Burgum, who will speak on her Recovery Reinvented program. All events will be held at the Grand Williston Hotel in Williston.
“She will have a chance to connect with the women who are in attendance,” Nelson said.
Other workshops will be held throughout the two-day event.
“A lot of the workshops will be interactive,” Nelson said. “You’re not going to get talked at the whole time, but you’re going to be getting engaged and meeting new people.”
