North Dakota teachers union joins calls for better pay and benefits to address teacher shortage

(Fargo, ND) -- The head of North Dakota's largest teacher's union, along with the American Federation of Teachers have released a report addressing the shortage of teachers.

"So right now it is a full on teacher shortage and we have to do something to get folks to take this issue seriously," said Nick Archuleta, President of North Dakota United.

Archuleta collaborated on the report "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow". The report chronicled current teacher frustrations, including how many don't like the "discourse surrounding public education". Proposed solutions in the report include increasing salaries and benefits, diversifying the educator workforce and reducing class sizes. The report also emphasizes "treating teachers and school staff like the professionals they are".
